Adjara packs a remarkable range into a small area: Batumi, Georgia's subtropical coastal city, sits at sea level on the Black Sea with a famous boulevard, botanical garden and vibrant restaurant scene, while just 60 km inland the road climbs through tea plantations and hazelnut groves into the alpine highlands around Goderdzi Pass. Shuakhevi, Beshumi and the Adjara highlands are virtually unknown to international visitors — offering some of the most rewarding trekking and canyoning in western Georgia, all within striking distance of a beach.

The coast is warm and swimmable; highland trails are open and the landscape is brilliantly green. Adjara is busiest and best in summer.

Apr & Oct

Shoulder Season

Quieter, with beautiful light. The coast is mild but not beach weather; the highlands are at their most dramatic in autumn colour.

Nov–Mar

Winter on the Coast

Batumi stays mild and green — subtropical winter by Caucasus standards. Highland passes close with snow. Good for city breaks.

Own international airport

Batumi Airport (BUS) has direct connections to several European and Middle Eastern cities — a useful alternative arrival point to Tbilisi.

Subtropical rain

Adjara is the wettest part of Georgia — Batumi averages over 2,400 mm of rain a year. A waterproof is essential even in summer.

Highland roads

The road to Goderdzi and highland villages is paved but steep and winding. Some sections beyond Shuakhevi benefit from a 4×4 in wet conditions.

Cultural blend

Adjara has a distinctive Muslim cultural heritage from Ottoman-era influence — different in feel from the rest of Georgia, and fascinating for it.
